57 passengers of Jaffar Express rescued by security forces reach Quetta

QUETTA (Dunya News) – At least 57 passengers who were taken hostage by the terrorists in attack on Jaffar Express in Bolan and were rescued during security forces operation have reached Quetta on late Tuesday night.
According to sources, the group had boarded a cargo train to Mach railway station from where they were brought to Quetta under tight security arrangements. Relatives of the passengers were present at the railway station to receive their loved ones.
Jaffar Express, carrying over 400 passengers, was traveling from the provincial capital, Quetta, to the northern city of Peshawar when it came under attack in Bolan district.
The 1,600km (994-mile) train journey from Quetta to Peshawar takes more than 30 hours to complete with more than 30 stops along the way.
The security forces rescued at least 104 passengers, including 31 women and 15 children, and 16 attackers had been killed.
Security officials said the attackers blew up the railroad track, and exchanged fire with security guards aboard the train while using women and children as human shields.
