Wrong impression Govt removing COAS, says PM

Summary PM Gilani says its a wrong impression that government wants to remove Gen Kayani and Gen Pasha.

Talking to senior journalists, PM Gilani said that a wrong impression is being created by certain people that the government wants to remove the Chief of Army Staff and the ISI DG. He said that the service tenures of the COAS and the ISI DG were ending when he pleaded them to continue their service under extension because commanders cannot be changed in the middle of a war.The PM said that he is fully satisfied with the working of the Army Chief. PM Gilani denied that he wants to stay glued to the PM’s chair. I always wanted the continuation of democracy in the country and had said several times that it doesn’t matter who is the prime minister, he added.The PM also said that the situation is getting better as dust around the memo issue is settling down. He said there is absolutely no threat to the government.He also said that he had given the ‘state within state’ statement with regards to the reply submitted by the Defence Secretary to the Supreme Court.The Defence Secretary had written to the SC that the Defence Ministry doesn’t have control on operations of the Pakistan Army and the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI).
