Addressing the rally in Karachi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, PTI Vice-Chairman and former foreign minister, said that President Zardari told him when he was foreign minister that former foreign secretary had assured to the USon behalf of the government of Pakistan that Pakistan would not object to India and US civil nuclear deal.Qureshi said when he asked former secretary Riaz about prtesence of any agreement or assurance, he termed it a white lie. If the President lies to the Foreign Minister on nuclear issue, how can nuclear programme be safe under him, he said.PTI rally will give people in the echelons of power sleepless nights, said Shah Mehmood Qureshi.Karachi has woken up. The nation which had been hopeless has glare of hope in the form of PTI, he added.He said Karachi wants employment, gas, end to bloodshedding, target killing. “The huge PTI rally carries message of peace,” he added.Qureshi pointed out the poor state of affairs in the country. He said the economy is in shambles. “Rail lines are there, but rail service is missing. Planes are grounded. Prices are rising. Steel Mills is no more a profit-making organization.”He said Pakistan needs to take a turnaround for good. He said it is a good omen that Pakistan has developed a consensus on certain points. “The nation has consensus that democracy is the only way of governanve. Mr Prime Minister, if nation is united on democracy, there can be no conspiracy by anyone but corruption of your own government,” Qureshi said while referring to the PM’s statement that there is state within state and that the Army is posing a threat to democracy.Qureshi said that the Supreme Court has buried the doctrine of necessity for good. He said now there can be no threat to democracy.He also said there is also national consensus on free media, adding that Pakistanis also have a consensus on nuclear power. If Pakistan is a nuclear power today, the nation has paid a price for it. The nation would not let anyone compromise its nuclear power.While Qureshi was addressing, the rally participants intermittantly chanted Go Zardari Go slogans.Qureshi said Pakistans nuclear programme has five-tier security mechanism in place. He also pointed to conspiracies against Pak nikes, vowing that the nation would foil all such evil designs. He also said Pakistanis want US relations, not US slavery. He said the Pakistanis must reject the party which forces nation to be a slave.He asked the charged crowed: Would you allow Zardari or anyone to compromise Pakistans nuclear programme.He also exhorted the rally to shout louder so that the voice, the consensus of Pakistanis on protection of nuclear programme, be heared in the power corridors in Islamabad and Washington alike.
