Summary Ch Nisar said that it does not befit an elected PM to initiate intrigues.
Addressing a news conference, opposition leader in National Assembly and PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani talked about martial law and mentioned issues that the west presents as a charge-sheet.If opposition or the public raise questions, it could be justified, but an elected prime ministers taking such swipes for political mileage is shocking, Nisar said.Nisar was referring to the PM’s statement on the NA floor that the government questions the Army how come Osama bin Laden went undetected for six years in the Abbottabad compound.Generating unfounded martial law fear can only be called discredit for a democratic country, Nisar regretted.Nisar said the fact of the matter is that the current government didn’t deal with any issue under its policy of brushing things under the carpet. He said the government is now harping on the ‘threat to government’ theme for political mileage.Nisar pointed out that the content and tone of the prime minister’s speech was similar to the points raised in the memo. The Prime Minister is weakening his case by his own, he said.Nisar also said that Pakistan and its institution are being ridiculed. It was not suitable for prime minister to questions about Osama Bin Laden, he suggested.I, being a parliamentarian, feel ashamed that the Army Chief had to make a statement to put to rest self-created fears and uncertainty of politicians. While criticising the PM over calling OBL raid a great victory, he said that the worst attack on Pakistan was called a great victory. The people are praying for government’s ouster, he said.Following the PM’s shocking outburst in the NA, Army Chief Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said that the Army has no plans to topple the government. He said that such impression was being created to divert attention from issues.
