Summary CJP says as to why the RPPs were approved in the presence of IPPs.
While hearing a Rental Power Project case, the Chief Justice said as to why the RPPS were approved knowing full well there wasn’t enough fuel in the country. The Ministry of Water and Power attorney informed the court there were 27 IPPs to provide 6870 mw.The CJP said except for Gulf Power Project, there were irregularities in all the RPPs.The court pointed out the electricity price is increasing due to fuel adjustment charges. In such a scenario, we should get the electricity from IPPs. The ministry’s attorney said the short fall would remain despite getting power from IPPs.The court also referred to ADB’s report on IPPs as a charge sheet against RPPs.
