A full court meeting was held on Thursday in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.At the beginning of the meeting, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan formally welcomed the four newly-elevated judges to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He hoped that with the addition of these learned judges to the apex court, the capacity of the court will be increased which should result into expeditious disposal of cases.The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan paid glowing tributes to the outstanding legal career of Hon’ble Justice Muhammad Sair Ali both as a lawyer and a Judge. The Hon’ble Chief Justice thanked the other Hon’ble Judges for making it convenient to attend this full court meeting which is being traditionally convened to say good bye to a member of the apex court on his retirement.The full court meeting observed that due to involvement of the judges in larger benches seized with many important constitutional cases, and the shortage of judges the disposal rate could not be sustained at the required level. However, it was felt that in view of the recent elevation of the four judges, the disposal rate should mark considerable increase.The full court meeting also discussed the issue of holding of an International Jurists Conference under the auspices of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) at Islamabad in April, 2012. The meeting decided that a committee comprising of the four senior most Judges of the Supreme Court may take all necessary decisions to convene the said conference in a most befitting manner.
