Summary DG Military Operations Maj Gen Ashfaq Nadeem Thursday said Nato airstrike was pre-planned.

Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Defence, the DG MO said that after the attack on Salala checkpost, it was wrongly informed that Volcano check post had been hit.He said that when the Company Commander rushed to the check post he saw that Nato helicopters had returned and kept the firing assault on until the two check posts were completely destroyed. The Senate Standing Committee on Defence meeting was chaired by Javed Ashraf Qazi.Asked why the Pakistani forces didn’t engage the Nato copters, the DG MO said that there wasn’t a clearance available to counter the strikes. He also said that the communication of the posts was disconnected, therefore counter operation was not launched. The DG however went on to say that now the permission has been granted to counter all attacks in a befitting manner. It is relevant to mention that following the Nato strikes, COAS Gen Kayani has suspended the chain of command system, enabling the commanding officer on the ground to counter strikes in future.
