Summary Mourning processions were taken out in all major cities on Yaum-e-Ashur, the 10th of Muharram.

The Ashura is observed to commemorate the great sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) at Karbala 1400 years ago. The grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his family and handful of his companions laid down their lives for the rise and glory of Islam.The main Zuljinnah procession in Lahore has reached Karbala Gamay Shah on Tuesday evening. It had emerged from Nisar Haveli in the Walled City on Monday night. Tight security arrangements have been made to avert any untoward incident.It remained a peaceful Ashura as no untoward incident was reported from any corner of the country, thanks to tight security arrangements.The main procession in Karachi has also culminated at at Imambargah Hussainia Irania Kharadar. It was taken out from Nishtar Park, and passed through MA Jinnah Road and Empress Market in the evening.Allama Shahanshah Naqvi earlier addressed the main Majlis at Nishtar Park. Then a huge procession came out with mourners beating their chests, reciting Nauha and flaggelating themselves with chains. The participants offered Nimaz-e-Zuhrain at Tibet Centre.Special security arrangements have been made for the maintenance of peace. Police pickets have been established on all entry and exit points of the city where every vehicle is being checked.Hospitals have been asked to remain alert for any emergency situation.In Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, all roads leading to Imambargahs were sealed off during the day and strict security was ensured for the processions.
