 Bonn moot: UN, Germany regret Pakistan's boycott

Summary International conference on the future of Afghanistan has started in Germany today.

The UN and Germany has expressed their regret over Pakistan’s boycott from the conference.During conference, dialogue with Taliban for peace, permanent strategy for future of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and economic policies of Afghanistan would be discussed in detail.This is the second conference held within 10 years on the future of Afghanistan.The first session was held after banishing Taliban from the government.According to the World Bank, Afghanistan is in need of $7billion per year for payment of salaries to its employees and satisfaction of other needs.The UN and Germany have expressed their regret over Pakistan’s boycott from the conference.UN General Secretary Banki Mon said that Pakistan is an essential country of the region which can prove helpful for consolidation of peace in Afghanistan. It would be better if Pakistan had participated in the conference, he said.German foreign minister has said that Pakistan absence from the Bonn conference doesn’t mean that Pakistan would not favour peace process in Afghanistan.I have full confidence on Pakistan and we can trust that it would play an integral part for restoration of peace in the region on permanent basis.Ex-Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri has termed Pakistan’s decision of not participating in the conference correct.
