Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the rental projects proved beneficial only for the upper class.A three-member bench of the SC conducted hearing of the rental power project case. NEPRA’s Director Finance, while recording his statement, said that the cost of electric power generated by these rental powers would be unbearable for the common man.The Chief Justice asked if the rates of rental plants were not the same. He directed that the court should be informed about the tariffs.The Chief Justice said rental power plants proved beneficial only for the upper class; the poor don’t even have a square meal.Judicial Assistant Anwar Kamal said that the government got loan worth Rs 21.84 billion after mortgaging assets of the NTD.He also said that government achieved scrap from China and started Rental Power Projects. Customs clearance documents are not being provided despite repeated reminders, he said.
