Summary People are finding it hard to buy sacrificial animals due to escalating prices.
Some are even finding collective Qurbani unaffordable. Most people are shocked after asking prices of goats and cows as the prices are beyond their imagination. “We experienced that prices of animals have doubled as compared to the previous two years. We bought a calf for Rs 42000 in 2009, this year a calf costs Rs 80,000 in the same market,” said Shehryar, a resident of Islamabad.On the other hand, sacrificial animal-sellers have complained of “heavy taxes” being charged by I-10/1, Islamabad animal market contractor.Siddique Ahmed, a goat-seller in the market, who came from Rahim Yar Khan, when asked about excessive prices, replied that they have paid large amount in terms of carriage as well as Rs 18000 for three trucks of goats -- Rs 100 for each goat and Rs 15000 for three tents each covering 15x15 feet space to save their animals from cold.
