Summary A bill against journalists privilege would be tabled in the Senate today.

The opposition parties, who never tire of giving statements in favour of freedom of media, will jointly submit a bill in the Senate regarding journalists’ privilege after which the Supreme Court will have the authority to question journalists about their news sources. All opposition parties including PML-N and PML-Q like-minded are fully backing this strange bill.According to this bill, a national journalist council will be formed which will comprise representatives of journalists, media owners, PEMRA, including secretaries of information and interior.Most of the senators who signed bill belong to PML-N and PML-Q. These senators include Raja Zafarul Haq, Pervez Rashid, Ishaq Dar, Mushahid Ullah Khan, Zafar Ali Shah of PML-N, while the senators of PML-Q include Saleem Saif Ullah Khan, Haroon Khan, Naeem Hussain Chattha, Gulshan Saeed, Javed Ali Shah, Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi and Tariq Azeem.This is worth mentioning here that no senator from Pakistan People’s Party has signed the bill.
