Summary Yaseen Azad has been elected SCBA President and his supporters are holding a celebration party.

His supporters, including the SCBA President Asma Jehangir, entered celebrations, dancing on the beat of drums after hearing the news of his vbictory. Rasheed A Rizvi was the other candidate in the close contest. He is also from Sindh.Yaseen secured 450 votes against Rizvis 422 in Lahore, 68 and 45 in Peshawar, 59 and 33 in Quetta and 33 and 18 votes respectively in Bahawalpur. However, Rivi got marginally higher votes in Islamabad and Karachi; 147 and 119 against Yaseens 138 and 102 respectively.The People’s Lawyers Forum, the lawyer wing of the PPP and incumbent SCBA President Asma Jehangir supported Yasin Azad whereas Rizvi was a candidate of Hamid Khan-led Professional Group. Former SCBA presidents Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, also a PPP leader, and Qazi Muhammad Anwar had announced their support for Rizvi.Polling of Supreme Court Bar Association’s annual election for 2011-2012 ended on 5pm, while continuing around 8pm.There were set up nine polling stations in different cities of Pakistan including, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sukkar, Peshawar, Abbotabad, Quetta and Karachi.About 2240 members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) cast their votes.
