 Power sector faces Rs 260b losses due to mismanagement

Summary The power sector has been facing loss of Rs 260 b per year due to mismanagement and outdated plants.

According to Planning Commission’s report, a loss of Rs 158 billion is caused by departmental mismanagement while Rs 103 billion by old power plants.It is deplorable that only leakage in the provision of oil is causing about Rs 10 billion loss in this regard. The report suggests if defaults and short comings of plants are removed properly, 51% oil may be secured.According to the Planning Management, the demand of power would reach to the 25,000 MW by 2015 which requires investment worth $ 35 billion within five years on emergency basis.
