Summary PM Gilani has said continuity of democracy is must for devolvement of Pakistan.
The country is very rich in the natural resources, which may help to revive the national economy, he said while speaking to a conference which was held on Thar Coal under the auspices of Sindh Investment Board (SIB).On the occasion Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Chairman SIB Zubair Motiwala were also present.“We would be in position to produce electricity from Thar coal in future. The country could be dragged out from the prevailing energy crises by generating low-cost power through alternative sources of energy. He said that Thar coal mines are the seventh biggest reserve in the world, which has almost 180 billion ton of coal,” he added.He said that by using this natural gift, Pakistan would be able to produce 100,000 mega watts of electricity for about three centuries. In future Pakistan could export electricity. The reserve would not only resolve the energy crises but also reduce the poverty.The Prime Minister said that without overcoming the energy crises the dream of progress could not be realised. He warned that the nation would have to face energy crises with the double intensity than current one and it is the need of the hour to expedite projects in the sector. He said that government has included almost 3500 mega watts electricity in the national grid during last three years.He said that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto inaugurated the project in 1993 but it was postponed due to political conflict. He said that the foundation stone of Diamir Bhasha Dam has been laid. “The 12 billion dollar project would produce 4000 mw of electricity besides storing capacity 8.2 million acre feet of water. After completion of Diamir Bhasha Dam, the life span of Terbela Dam would also be increased by 35 years.”He said that the government is acting upon a comprehensive policy that the country could benefit from her natural resources. “Pakistan is most appropriate country regarding investment. There is a lot of potential for the foreign investors. They should invest in energy sector and the government would provide them full security and facilities,” said the PM.
