Summary Minister for Water and Power seeks to divert attention from rental power plants issue.
Talking to the media men on Saturday on the occasion of International Tharcoal conference held under Sindh Board of Investment, Naveed Qamar said rental power plants (or IPPs – Independent Power Producers) were being made an issue unnecessarily while only 200 megawatt electricity would have been generated from these plants.The successive governments did not focus on electricity problem and they have come to forefront to criticise government on this issue, he charged.He urged the investors to initiate power projects in the country and government will provide every protection to them.Several projects were being launched through Thar coal which includes projects ranging between 1000 megawatt and 3000 megawatt production capacity.He said three agreements have been executed to import electricity from Iran. Iran will also supply 100 megawatt electricity to Gwadar, Naveed Qamar said, adding that an agreement has also been reached to import 1000 megawatt electricity.To a question about suspension of membership of National Assembly, Naveed Qamar said he would file assets and liabilities declaration by Monday.
