Summary PML-N candidate Khizar Hayat has won by-polls for PP 220 Sahiwal.
The PML-N candidate defeated PML-Q and PPP’s joint candidate Muzaffar Shah with a margin of over 21,000 votes.However, the PML-Q has rejected the election result, saying the PML-N’s mandate is of the patwaris, not the public.Skirmishes and clashes between PML-N and PML-Q workers were reported from various polling stations.The seat was vacated following the disqualification of former Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid MPA Pir Walayat Shah Khagga in the fake degree case.At least 12 candidates contested the by-poll in constituency PP-220 where 160 polling stations with 392 polling booths were set up.The number of registered voters in the constituency is 136,925. Tight security arrangements were to maintain law and order situation in Sahiwal, but despite the arrangements, clashes were reported. It was a local holiday in Sahiwal to facilitate voters.
