Summary Three more people have died of dengue in Lahore but federal government is unmoved on loadshedding.
With the seven deaths on Sunday, the Lahore metropolis dengue death toll has climbed to 131 as the virus continues to take lives.Health officials said that the dengue death toll in Punjab has reached 137. As many as 409 new dengue cases have been reported in Lahore in the last 24 hours. There are now 12,862 dengue patients in Punjab, out of which 11,261 are in Lahore.The dengue committee set up on the Punjab government’s orders to create awareness in schools has started functioning.A team of Indonesian experts Saturday arrived in Lahore on the call of the Centre to assist the provincial government. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif welcomed the experts at the airport. He however demanded Islamabad to stop power loadshedding in Lahore as the city is virtually calamity hit in view of dengue.The CM said loadshedding is creating enormous problems for hospitals in treating patients. Over 16 hours of loadshedding has been reported from various parts of Lahore and other cities of the Punjab province.Many hospitals of Lahore complained of prolonged loadshedding, saying they were running out of petrol to run power generators for critical emergency treatments.The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) said that they were helpless as the national grid was shutting power supply to their grids.
