Summary US envoy Cameron Munter was quick to call on President Zardari after departure of Chinese dignitary.
Munter earlier met Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir for a second time in two days and reportedly discussed regional security situation in the wake of Pak-US rift.Later, the US envoy called on President Asif Ali Zardari amid what can be called diplomatic frenzy since upright stand of the Pakistan Army and other branches of state in the face of mounting American slur.Munter and President Zardari discussed the way forward in the bilateral relations, with the latter stressing the need for the US to acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war on terror. President Zardari also called for putting a stop to anti-Pakistan campaign launched in the US media.In the aftermath of US officials accusing Pakistan of maintaining links with Haqqani network, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, junior most in the current cabinet, was the first one to counter the American blunt rhetoric. While in the US, she disclosed that the US maintains links with terrorist outfits the world over.Chinese Deputy PM Meng Jianzhu earlier left for home after completing a successful and friendly visit to Pakistan.During his visit, Meng met President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee General Khalid Shameem Wynne, Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and other government and military high-ups. He asured the goverment and people of Pakistan of his countrys full support in the hour of need.He was seen off by the Interior Minister Rehman Malik at the Chaklala Airbase Rawalpindi.
