Summary US media has now started claiming Pakistan Army has decided not to act against Haqqanis.

US media says the decision was taken at the corps commanders’ meeting the other day.The report quotes unnamed Pakistani official as saying that troops are too busy countering cross-border attacks from Afghanistan and local Pakistani militants in other parts of the tribal belt to take on the Haqqanis.These are kind of more pressing issues that we have to tackle, the security official was quoted.Mudslinging and aid cut calls: Finding the opportunity, Senators too have joined the anti-Pakistan mudslinging campaign.Senator Mark Kirk said that military assistance to Pakistan should be eliminated.Kirk, member of the Subcommittee on Security and International Trade and Finance, said that the aid should be tied to concrete steps by the Pakistani government, including allowing American strikes within the country.He also suggested turning over responsibility for Afghanistan to India by saying India has a strong interest in an Afghanistan that is not a terror base.Kirk said:“I think now we’ve got to cut off military assistance to Pakistan.”A top US senator earlier pressed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to add the Haqqani network to a formal terrorism blacklist, citing recent attacks in Afghanistan.I request that the State Department take the additional step of listing the network as a Foreign Terrorism Organization and look forward to receiving your response, said Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein.
