Summary Khurram reiterated government’s resolve to hold elections in free and fair environment.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir has said that the general elections will be affected if election in Punjab are held.
Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, he said that Punjab is the most populous province in the country with 55 percent population living there. The results of elections in Punjab would affect the outcome of general elections. Small provinces have reservations about the Punjab elections, he added.
Khurram reiterated government’s resolve to hold elections in free and fair environment. The government wanted everyone to have an equal chance in the elections.
The minister said that a resolution regarding holding elections in the country simultaneously was approved in a joint session of the parliament.
He also prayed the Supreme Court of Pakistan to constitute a full court to address the constitutional crisis through collective wisdom.
He claimed that the PTI came into power by rigging the 2018 elections. The PML-N was the targeted after the elections. There was a conspiracy to sabotage PML-N during the PTI regime.
Khurram said that the consequences of 2018 elections were still being faced by the country in the form of economic crisis, including shortage of wheat, sugar and fertilizers.
He said 90 percent increase was witnessed in the debt and liabilities of the country during the PTI tenure.
Population census was going on in the country. Constituencies would be demarcated on the basis of census data before the elections, he continued.
Khurram claimed that the PDM parties enjoyed more than two-thirds majority in 2018.
Regarding power supply situation this summer, he said it would be far better as compared to the previous year due to better management of present government.
He said we have added 2,000 megawatts of electricity through the use of domestic Thar Coal. The use of local coal for power generation would also bring down the prices of electricity, the minister maintained.
He said it is also our effort to use local fuel for electricity generation and minimize the imports of furnace oil.
Khurram said bidding for the first solar project would take place next month and work would start by the year end.
He said focus of the incumbent government was construction of the country while that of PTI Chairman Imran Khan to stoke chaos and anarchy.
