President Alvi announces to reduce prisoners' punishment

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – President Arif Alvi on Wednesday announced to reduce the punishment of prisoners to 90 days.

The president gave assent to reduce punishment on account of the Pakistan day.

It is important to note that the decision would not be applicable on prisoners charged in murder, espionage, anti-state activities, rape, theft, kidnapping and terrorism. Also, those involved in financial crimes would not get the relief.

Only male prisoners above 65 years of age and having spent their one-third of their prison terms would get the benefit and also female prisoners above 60 years of age and having spent their one-third jail terms would be able to enjoy the result of the scheme.

Also, children of less than 18 years of age would be among those taking benefit from the plan.

President Alvi took the decision to reduce prison term under Article 45.
