Protesting Rail men demand pays, threaten trains strike

Summary Railways employees held protest in Rawalpindi against non-payment of salaries to them.

Railways workers along with union leaders from carriage factory, washing lines and railway station gathered in front of Divisional Superintendent Office and staged a sit-in as the salary of two months have not been paid to them. The protestors chanted high-pitched slogans against Federal Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and railway management.After some time the employees went to railways station and stopped Quetta-bound Jaffar Express as they had a sit-in on the railways track.On the occasion, the leaders of Rail Mazdoor Itehad Zahoor Shah, Sabraiz Abbasi and Mubarik Hussain said that the corrupt administration of railways had forced the employees to stop their children from going to schools as they have no money for paying their tuition fees.They said that the officers are sitting in the air conditioned room after snatching the last loaf of bread from the mouth of their children. They threatened if their dues were not cleared within next 24 hours, they will stop all the trains. They said that the credibility of the rulers has so much declined that the cheques of Rs 125 million given by the government has bounced.General Manager Railways Saeed Akhtar and DS Tariq Khan hesitated to face these angry employees. But when their demonstration was prolonged, Divisional Superintendent called the trade union leaders in his office and assured them that the payment of salaries would be made to them within next 24 hours, on which they postponed their protest for the day.
