Four trees should supplant one on Canal Road: SC

The Supreme Court has said in its verdict on the Canal Road widening project that four trees must be planted in place of a single tree.The Supreme Court, in its verdict, declared the greenbelts along the canal were public property.The court said that minimum environmental damage should incur to the green belts and canal during the road widening project and the design of the project should be altered where needed for this purpose.The court ordered to the authorities concerned to construct service roads to maintain the flow of traffic uninterrupted during the widening of road.The Supreme Court had issued a stay order against the tree cutting on Canal Road after media raised the issue of tree cutting.
