Former US Ambassador to Pakistan, Anne Patterson, dispatched a cable back to the US on March 21, 2009, reporting the detail of her meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari.According to the leaked cable, Zaradri did not want to abolish the 17th Amendment but said that Nawaz Sharif was pressurising him on the matter.Zardari told the US envoy that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had also announced the abolishment of the 17th Amendment on the public demand, the cable discloses.The cable divulges that Zardari wanted to clip the powers of the chief justice.During his meeting with the US envoy, the president complained that the US and the UK did not come to his aide when he was facing a hard time.
