Summary KP religious scholar denounce terrorism in latest decree

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Religious scholars in Khyber Paktunkhwa (KP), one of the most hit regions in the latest terrorism wave, have denounced militant activities in the country.

Scholars of seminaries belonging to different schools of thought, including Darul Uloom Sarhad Peshawar, Darul Uloom Haqania and Tanzeemul Madaras, have issued a fatwa [decree] decrying extremism and terrorism. The decree states the announcement for Jihad could only be made by the head of an Islamic state, adding that the common people had no authority in this regard. It is prohibited to violate the laws of the state.

It also states that military and police officials, who lost their lives to protect Pakistan, are martyrs. Launching a war against an incumbent ruler is tantamount to treason, it says, adding that such elements deserve punishment. Creating chaos in the guise of lingual, religious, sectarian and ethnic differences is prohibited in the Islamic state, it says.
