Defence Day observed with renewed resolve

The nation resolved to defend the ideological and geographical boundaries of the country from any aggression in line with the spirit and unity exhibited by the whole nation by standing shoulder to shoulder with defenders of the motherland in September 1965.In commemoration of the martyrs of the 1965 war, the daylong celebrations started with Quran Khawani, following special prayers for the sovereignty, solidarity and integrity of Pakistan.The national flag was hoisted at all Formation Headquarters, Units and Army installations. Tributes were paid to the valiant soldiers who had laid down their lives for the defence of country.Floral wreaths were laid at the memorials of all the Nishan-e-Haider recipients while a guard mounting ceremony took place at the Mazaar-i-Quaid in which a contingent of cadets took over guard duties.A change of the guard ceremony was also held at the Mazaar-i-Iqbal to pay homage to the national poet.September 6 is marked as the Defence Day of Pakistan as on this day in 1965, the armed forces successfully defended the motherland against the invasion of the Indian army.
