Karachi violence, perpetrators will not be spared: PM

Summary Miscreants would be brought to justice with the help of political parties and the people, said PM.

Speaking at the foundation-stone laying ceremony of the Supreme Court Bar Association building, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said that the government with the cooperation of political forces and people would bring perpetrators of violence in Karachi to justice. He vowed not to allow terrorists and gangsters to play havoc with the lives of innocent people of Karachi. He assured that the government was alive to the situation in Karachi and was doing everything possible to bring it back to normalcy.He recalled the days when leaders and workers stood outside the Supreme Court protesting against the despotic rule of a dictator.Lawyers have played a pivotal role in struggling for a democratic transition and for the restoration of an independent judiciary, he said and added that the lawyers’ community had been the first shield of defence against the undemocratic forces and rendered immense sacrifices to ensure that people’s inalienable right to determine their future was safeguarded at every cost.The Prime Minister said restoration of democracy and promotion of rule of law had played a central role in the manifesto and ideals of Pakistan People’s Party.Governor Punjab Latif Khosa, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Masood Kausar, federal ministers, parliamentarians and SCBA president were also present on the occasion.
