According to reports, the Karachi Electric Supply Company’s employees were protesting against the non-payment of salaries on Eid. A clash broke out between the employees and police, when the police used force to disperse the protesters. It added fuel on fire when security guards’ allegedly opened fire at the workers and the protester turned violent.The angry mob burnt and damaged KESC’s assets after its security guards’ allegedly opened fire at the workers protesting outside company’s head office.According to union chairman Akhlaq Ahmed, workers were peacefully protesting outside the head office demanding their four months salaries, when security guards opened indiscriminate fire injuring seven of them. He said that about 300 employees have been hostage by the company.On the other hand KESC spokesman said that labour union attacked the head office and it were actually those who started shooting at the building, not the guards.Heavy contingent of paramilitary forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
