Summary As forecast, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa is receiving a heavy spell of rain under a new monsoon system.
It also rained in parts of Sindh and in upper Punjab areas Thursday morning. The level of water has started increasing in the Sutlej and the Chenab, fuelling flood worries. Gujrat, Hafizabad and adjoining areas received rain in the morning while Lahore started its day overcast, while it had rain yesterday.The Met Office had forecast a new monsoon spell in upper parts of the country, with likely rains in Punjab, Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.Dunya News learnt that Kohat had received most rain (55 millimeter) by 11am Thursday, while Bannu and Peshawar received 23mm rain. Many roads of Peshawar and low-lying areas have been inundated with rainwater owing to poor sewerage. Motorists are facing immense problems and many a vehicle have broken down due to excessive water, while some vehicles have been stuck in open gutters. The situation is similar in Nowshera, Charsadda and Bannu.In Karachi, rain started 6am in many parts of the metropolis, including Landhi, Malir and Shah Faisal Colony. Reports of rain were also received from Sukkur city.The PMD forecast Wednesday that heavy rains will hit Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Hazara and Kohat during next five days while weather would remain hot and dry in other parts of the country.
