Zardari calls emergency moot as Altaf gives PM quit call

Summary President Zardari has called PM Gilani from Karachi for an emergency meeting at Aiwa-e-Sadr.

The call came soon after MQM chief Altaf Hussain asked the PM to restore peace in the Karachi or step down. Altaf reportedly said that he had informed the PM time and again of the terrorists creating unrest in the city, but nothing was done. He said if PM Gilani cannot restore peace, he better quit the government. The MQM chief said “how long we will continue to stay silent spectators”.PM Gilani was in Karachi during the day to discuss with the political leadership ways and means to end Karachi unrest. He held a spate of meetings, including a meeting with Sindh cabinet and a separate meeting at CM’s House. The PM ordered launching an indiscriminate operation in the city, though killings continued on the ground as usual.
