The former Sindh home minister who is known for his flamboyant statements came down on Rehman Malik, the federal interior minister, for repeated visits to Karachi. Mirza asked Malik why he visited Karachi every now and then. Mirza said law and order was primarily the provincial government’s responsibility and the federal interior minister should refrain from making contacts with different people in this regard. He also asked Malik not to visit Karachi for at least next 15 days.Mirza also reportedly handed over to the PM evidence of some elements’ involvement in Karachi unrest. He said not just one, but all political parties are to blame for the unrest.Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that the federal government was ready to help the provincial government but the bleeding of Karachi must stop forthwith.The Prime Minister directed the provincial government and the heads of the law enforcement agencies to take stern and indiscriminate action against the culprits who had made the city unsafe for the people. This is unacceptable and the culprits must be brought to justice by awarding them exemplary punishment, the Prime Minister said.The Prime Minister made it clear that the situation in the city had to be brought under control. He urged the coalition partners and other stakeholders to work together and extend their full support to the law enforcement agencies which were fully committed to protecting the life and property of the citizens.The Prime Minister said that that the law enforcement agencies are fully capable of delivering effectively with the full backing of all the stakeholders.
