Summary Shahbaz Sharif says government is sitting idle while Karachi braves incessant slaying.

The Punjab CM was addressing a press conference Saturday at Karachi airport where he arrived to visit onwards to flood-hit Badin. He said that delay in restoring peace (in Karachi) would result in more destruction. Those elements playing havoc should be dealt with iron hands, he said. “The government should take steps for peace in Karachi but without dispensing justice, it is not possible.”The Punjab CM said that a delegation of PML-N would visit Karachi soon to express solidarity with the people of the city. He said that bloodshed in Karachi is highly deplorable. “The city of lights and financial hub of the country has turned into a town of horror on which every Pakistani is in a state of sorrow. Anti-Pakistan elements are promoting violence here.”He said that the terrorists have nothing to do with either Islam or Pakistan. “Peace could only be restored if strict action is taken. The city is seeing the worst bloodbath but the rulers are turning a blind eye to this worsening situation. The government should take the parliament on board in this connection.”He asked the people to get united for bringing tranquility in the city.To a question, Shahbaz Sharif said that if it is necessary on administrative grounds, at least 12 more new provinces may be formed, but he is not in favour of making federating units on ethnic basis. About load shedding, he sarcastically remarked that electricity has electrocuted the people. He said that the country is being pushed into the darkness to hide corruption.Shahbaz said that no one asked the government why Governor State Bank was changed. He was of the view that mayhem in Karachi, NICL scam and rental power plants are the efforts to divert attention from corruption. In Badin, Shahbaz addressed flood-hit people and lamented lack of adequate relief from the authorities concerned.
