Karachi: Nationalists strike today: situation gets tense, 2 shot dead

Summary The situation has started worsening in Sindh including Karachi ahead of nationalists strike today.

At least two people were killed while several were injured after mobs, incidents of looting started in different areas of Karachi. Some unknown miscreants set 9 vehicles on fire while police arrested at least 42 persons in Karachi and Sukkur during crackdowns.After indiscriminate firing, a wave of fear spread and shops were closed in different areas of Karachi including Gulistan-e-Johar, Rabia City, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Pehlwan Goth and Hassan Square.Some unknown persons set a bus on fire in Tower area of the city in which one person was killed and 4 people were injured.Meanwhile, another bus was also set on fire in Nepa Chorangi while some miscreants set a pick-up van on fire near Gakhar Phatak. Some unidentified persons also set 2 buses on fire in Orangi Town and Mai Kolachi Road.In another incident, a man namely Jameel was shot dead in Baloch Para in the limit of Jamshed Quarters. Police arrested more than a dozen persons in Burhan Centre during door to door search operation while a heavy contingent of police has been deployed at Empress Market and its surroundings.In Hyderabad, a Sindh university bus was set on fire near Civil Court, some unknown people set a van on fire on Thandi Sarak, while a vehicle was also set on fire in Hilltop Chari area.On the other hand, more than 30 people were arrested from Sukkur during a crackdown against the nationalist parties.Fear also grips other cities of Sindh as violent incidents have started ahead of the nationalists’ strike.
