Summary The session has been summoned by President Asif Ali Zardari on the advice of the prime minister.
The government has summoned the National Assembly (NA) to meet on Monday to discuss the critical situation arising from the recent tussle between executive and judiciary during which the Prime Minister would take on board the parliamentarians regarding the executive stand.Chief whip of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Sheikh Aftab Ahmed had submitted the requisition with the signatures of 93 members of party to National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza for convening the National Assembly session.Prior to any decision by the speaker on the requisition the president has summoned the session on the advice of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.According to sources, during the session the federal government is expected to get a resolution passed from the parliament regarding endorsement of powers of the Prime Minister. The resolution would be supported by all allies of the PPP.The prime minister would place the whole situation in front of the parliament and his address would focus on powers of the PM which have been delegated to him by the parliament and it is his right to run the administrative affairs as chief executive. The powers of judiciary and executive are well defined and no other authority can use the authority of the chief executive and if this is done than it would be an insult to the parliament.
