Summary The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is going to hold party polls today in Islamabad.
The PML-N Central Working Committee is meeting at the Islamabad Convention Centre to elect the party‘s central office-bearers including its president. The party has decided to elect Mian Nawaz Sharif as president of the party once again after 12 years. It is expected that the election of the president and office-bearers of the party would be held unanimously.The PML-N has been without central and provincial office-bearers for 22 months as it has failed to hold elections despite the passage of four deadlines for various reasons.In September 2009, Mian Nawaz Sharif had directed the party members to complete the process of elections by March 23, 2010.Through a resolution, the members had authorised Nawaz Sharif to appoint members of the organising committees to run the party affairs until the elections for new office-bearers.On Dec 12, Nawaz Sharif announced members of the committees at the central and provincial level.He nominated Shahbaz Sharif as chief organiser of the party‘s Punjab chapter.Saleem Zia, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan and Khuda e Noor were made chief organisers for Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.A seven-member committee, headed by Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, will monitor the voting. Various committees have also been formed to accommodate the workers and general body members.
