Pakistan never felt US attack threat: MO DG

Summary Military Operations DG Major General Ashfaq Nadeem said that Abbottabad attack was surprising.

During the meeting of the Abbottabad Commission, headed by Justice Javed Iqbal, set for the probe of May 2 US attack and killing of Osama bin Laden, Military Operations DG Major General Ashfaq Nadeem said that being the US ally Pakistan never felt a threat from the US.He said that the US and allied forces conducted raid in Pak-Afghan border region after informing Pakistan but Pakistani military was kept in the dark about the Abbottabad operation.The major general said that though Abbottabad was a cantonment area that had its own security system but there were no combatant military there.He said that there was a separate defence mechanism for the military installations of the country but the Pakistan Military had a separate mechanism for their aerial and land surveillance.The military installation sites cannot be compared with Abbottabad, he said. The commission called its new meeting on august 1 in which Inter-Service-Intelligence Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha would brief the commission over the issue.The commission is of the view that only ISI director general could inform the commission about the real situation of the incident.According to the sources the commission has said that there is no pressure on the commission from making public the findings of the commission.It is also expected that the commission would send the questionnaire to the US through the Foreign Office.
