Summary Torrential rain in Rawalpindi and Islamabad claimed lives of nine people.
Water in Nullah Lai has reached its upper level. According to details, after continuous torrential rain the water level in Nullah Lai has reached its upper level while Flood Warning Control Room has warned the citizens regarding the expected dangers of floods in the Nullah.Army has been put on standby to avoid any untoward situation and armymen have assumed the charges of protection control of all the respective bridges of Nullah Lai.In Bingraal suburbs of Sihala, a roof of a house collapsed where marriage ceremony was held on the night between Sunday and Monday. Resultantly, at least 5 persons including 3 children died on the spot. The deceased were Malika Bibi (45), Saliha (11), Waheed (8), Faizan Haider (10) and Shaukat (10). Sources told that the all the deceased came from Palandri, AJK to attend the marriage ceremony.A 22 years old young man drowned in Nullah Lai near Jhanda Chichi. His dead body has been recovered but could not be identified due to severe injuries. While three more persons drowned in Nullah Lai. However, the bodies of 5-year Nawaz, 22 years old Zain Ullah and 20 years old Kamran Khan have not been found yet. As it is expected that all these three have been drowned in Nullah Lai.Meanwhile, rain water is overflowing in low lying areas including Amar Pura, Feroze Pura, New Kattarian, New Phakwari, Fauji Colony, Hazara Colony, Aria Mohala, Nadeem Colony and Javed Colony. While in Javed Colony a house collapsed due to illegal construction. However, no loss of life has been reported yet.Rainwater is standing in low lying areas in the following areas Arjun Nagar, Gawal Mandi, Usman Pura, Muslim Colony, Nadeem Abad, Chaman Zar Colony, Dhok Khabba, Dhok Farman Ali, Tahmasap Abad and other areas, where inhabitants have been facing severe difficulties. The locals have started to migrate in safe areas.On the other hand, rescue teams including Rescue 1122 officials have reached flood expecting areas. According to the Met Department, in Rawalpindi 55mm rain was recorded on Monday till 1pm. It is expected that the spell of rain will continue.DCO Saqib Nisar said that the local government has made all arrangements to control the situation and tackle the flooding situation. More than 4 Flood Relief Camps have been set up in the city where all maximum first aid equipments are available to provide maximum facilities to the citizens which is the top most priority of the government, he said.Saqib Nisar told that we are constantly in contact with other departments to control the situation, whereas the situation of flood in Nullah Lai is under control and operation would start in case of any emergency.
