Prolonged load shedding is pestering the people across the country, with no respite in sight in the near future. In the given situation, the perturbed citizens of Dera Ghazi Khan took out a symbolic funeral of WAPDA, laying an effigy named WAPDA on a cart and carried it through streets. They were raising slogans against the apathy of the rulers. They also prayed for betterment in the situation before burning the WAPDA effigy on fire. So worst is the situation that tehsil Rojhan of Rajanpur has been without electricity for the last four days. The negligence of the WAPDA authorities forced the people to take to the streets.Islamabad Electric Supply Company faces a shortfall of 800 megawatts. This has allowed enough pretext for WAPDA to shut power for 12 hours a day. The rural areas are facing even prolonged load shedding – more than 14 hours a day. In another blatant example of negligence and unplanned load shedding, Rawalpindi’s 45 percent areas are without electricity for well over 18 hours now.Multan Electric Power Supply Company is facing a shortage of 775 megawatts. Multan’s urban areas face load shedding for 10 to 12 hours a day while rural areas 12 to 14 hours. This has created a lot of problems not only for the domestic consumers but also traders whose businesses have virtually ceased earnings.Similarly, Peshawar and other areas of Khyberpakhtoonkhwa face load shedding for up to 18 hours a day, ruining routine life, particularly businesses. Pakistan Electric Supply Company’s spokesperson says each province is facing shortfall of 760 megawatts.
