Electricity shortfall reaches 5,784MW

Summary Due to decrease in IPPs production, short fall has reached 5,784MW with an increase of 1,300MW.

According to PEPCO authorities, the current electricity demand is 18,591 megawatts while production remains at 12,807 megawatts.IPPs production has decreased to 5,544MW due to shortage of oil and gas load shedding. The country is getting 5,175MW from hydel resources, 1,944 from thermal and 144MW from rental power plants.Load shedding duration has reached 9-12 hours in urban areas and 13-15 hours in rural areas.
