Summary Sindh Apex Committee expresses concern over security of important buildings
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Monday’s Sindh Apex Committee meeting has raised concerns over the security situation of important buildings in the province, including the Quaid’s mausoleum.
A proposal of formulation of a policy for the return of Afghan refugees was considered during the meeting while it was also revealed that foreign diplomats held meetings without proper security arrangements.
During the briefing, it was revealed that Quaid’s Mausoleum, Wazir Mansion and FJ House are facing security concerns, following which security arrangements at such sensitive locations have been bolstered.
The meeting was informed that foreign diplomatic personnel move around the city without security arrangements while Vice-Chancellors of various universities have been meeting foreign diplomats without permission.
The meeting also discussed the issue of Afghan refugees living in Pakistan. It was informed that more than 2.7 million such refugees are living in Pakistan whose Proof of Registration and Afghan Citizen cards expired on June 30 last year. States and Frontier Regions Division has sent a summary to the Cabinet Division for the extension of the Afghan Citizen Card.
Members suggested that the government formulate a formal policy for the repatriation of Afghan refugees. The meeting was informed that CTD has reviewed the individuals and organizations involved in various schedules, with those in the Fourth Schedule being re-verified.
The issue of gas leakage from KPT was also discussed in the meeting. The Chief Minister directed that the issue should be resolved by coordinating with the concerned authorities.
The Apex Committee meeting was told that the security situation is under control thanks to the monitoring and coordination of law enforcement agencies but some groups, including some nationalist ones, want to cause problems with the support of neighboring India.
In the briefing, IG Sindh highlighted the law and order situation and the performance of the police. The Sindh Chief Minister appreciated the performance of the police and law enforcement agencies.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that the decisions of the Apex Committee have yielded good results and acknowledged the sacrifices of law enforcement agencies to restore law and order in the city.
