Summary The Election Commission of Pakistan has sounded alarms for MPs with dual nationality.
ECP Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed has said new sections to get details about dual nationality will be included in the nomination papers in future. He said the law barring dual nationals from contesting polls already exists, but isn’t properly implemented.Asked if lists have been made to know how many of sitting MPs have dual nationality, the secretary ducked the question, saying new legislation is needed in this regard.Earlier, the ECP had a high-level session attended by the chief election commissioner, ECP members, the election commissioners from the provinces, the NADRA chairman. The participants decided to launch door-to-door verification of 80 million voters. Previously, many of the incumbent MPs with fake degrees have faced humiliation.
