ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Smuggling has inflicted more than Rs 500 billion revenue losses to the government during previous year, Dunya News reported on Sunday

It has been revealed that due to smuggling, more than Rs 500 billion was lost in revenue last year. Smuggling of mobile phones alone has resulted in a loss of $776 million in revenue.

According to sources, the government incurred a loss of $660 million due smuggling of diesel last year, vehicle smuggling caused $638.4 million loss, $53.7 million was lost due to auto parts smuggling while $174.4 revenue was lost due to tyre smuggling.

Sources further revealed that the smuggling of tea caused a loss of $63.7 million in revenue, the smuggling of cigarettes caused a loss of $73.6 million to the national economy, and the smuggling of television caused a loss of $79.3 million in revenue.
