Gilani asks NDMA to standby for monsoon

Summary Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has put the NDMA on high alert to deal with the monsoon rains.

Gilani chaired a meeting in Islamabad to discuss the arrangements to deal with any untoward situation during the monsoon rains.The prime minster directed the Cabinet Division and the National Disaster Management Authority to get all the arrangement done to cope with a catastrophe without relying on foreign aid.Gilani asked the Water and Power Ministry to form a joint strategy with the consultation of the provincial government and experts to breech the dikes, if necessary.The prime minister stressed that the people must not be allowed to make a breech any dike on their own even in case of emergency.The Pakistan Meteorological Department said that the Chinese weather department should be consulted to get help for timely flood prediction.
