Updated on

Summary Punjab Textbook Board has earned disdain as class-9s new chemistry book contains multiple errors.

The mistakes in the new edition of the book for the current academic year have caused a lot of inconvenience to the students and parents alike. The starling blunders range from wrong formulas and diagrams to distorted elaboration of basic concepts. The mistakes made it to the final publication despite the presence of a rigorous process and mechanism. First tenders are sought for equitable competition and the eligible publisher is issued an NOC.The selected publisher then prints a draft textbook in line with the curriculum approved by the federal government. The Lahore Board’s Internal Review Committee then vets the draft before it is sent to a provincial and a nation committee comprising teachers. The National Select Committee also reviews the draft before the final nod for printing could be given. However, Punjab Textbook Board officials claim that mistakes in the first edition of a book is a standard practice. They say the teachers would rectify the mistakes themselves. Seven lakh copies of the book have been sold so far.
