Summary The PM has approved the summaries for formation of Abbottabad and Saleem Shahzad commissions.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday approved the summaries sent by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs proposing the constitution of inquiry commissions for the Abbottabad operation and the murder of journalist Saleem Shahzad. The Chief Justice of Pakistan has approved the names of Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Saqib Nisar as the heads of the commissions.The Abbottabad Commission will comprise Mr Justice Javed Iqbal as head while Abbas Khan Ashraf Jehangir Qazi and Lt. Gen (r) Nadeem Ahmed would be members of the commission.The Saleem Shahzad murder commission will comprise Mr Justice Mian Saqib Nisar as head of the Commission while Mr Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed, Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court, IG Punjab, IG Islamabad and the President Federal Union of Journalist would be members of the commission.On the other hand, the Pakistan Army is also investigating the Abbottabad incident by its separate commission.According to the sources, the Army’s commission headed by Lt Gen Javed Iqbal would submit its report to the judicial commission. Army’s three-member commission to probe the May 2 incident was formed on the COAS orders.Sources said that the commission has held meetings with several officials and it would first submit its recommendation to the COAS.
