Summary The NA approved more than 8 demands for grants worth Rs 505 billion for Defence Division.
The National Assembly on Saturday approved Rs 141,451,919,000 billion for the Cabinet Division, three demands for grants worth Rs 5.7 billion for the Communication Ministry and eight demands for grants of over Rs 505 billion for the Defence Division while rejecting 187 cut motions, presented by the Opposition.Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Shaikh presented the demands of Defence Division in the House while opposition members Shareen Arshad Khan, Tahria Aurangzaibm, Khalida Mansoor, Parveen Masood Bhatti and Ishrat Ashraf submitted their cut motions. Opening the debate on cut motions, PML-N leader Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi said Pakistan needed a competitive defence system. Ashand Iqbal said the nation was proud of soldiers who were sacrificing their lives in defending the country’s borders. He, however, stressed the need for setting objectives of national security for which, he said the government should initiate dialogue with all stakeholders.
