Journalists murder: Justice Saqib Nisar refuses to head commission

Summary Justice Saqib Nisar has refused to head the commission to probe Saleem Shahzads murder.

The government has issued the notification of formation of the commission to probe into the murder but the opinion was not sought from the Chief Justice as well as Justice Nisar.PML-N has also expressed its dissatisfaction over the commission while Firdous Ashiq Awan said that government’s decision should not be suspected.According to the notification, the commission comprises Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court Justice Agha Rafique, AIG Investigation Punjab and DIG Islamabad.On the other hand, Justice Saqib Nisar said that no judge could be nominated for the commission without the approval of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.Talking to Dunya News, Justice Saqib said that the reason behind refusal was nominating him without permission of the department head.Justice Nisar said that he would head the commission if the Chief Justice approved.On the other hand, PML-N has also expressed its dissatisfaction over the formation of the commission.PML-N spokesperson Pervez Rashid said that the nomination of Justice Nisar without CJ’s permission shows non-serious attitude of the government.Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan has assured that they would consult all parties while making an ultimate judgment. The commission would submit its report within six weeks.
