Summary Dust storm in Karachi kills four, including woman, in roof and wall collapse incidents
KARACHI (Dunya News) - After a hot day in Karachi, the wind suddenly picked up in the evening and soon shaped into a dust storm, disrupting life across the city. Most areas of the city plunged into darkness as the electricity transmission system fell through. The storm killed four people and injured 18 others.
According to the Meteorological Department, the winds and rain were caused due to the effects of the western system and the dust storm lasted for about half an hour. The wind speed was recorded at 18 kilometers per hour.
Weather forecasters fear strong winds could pick up again originating from the north. In the second wave, light rain is also expected in the plains of the city.
Due to strong winds, various incidents were reported in the city in which 4 people including a woman lost their lives while 18 people were injured.
Meanwhile, most areas of the city saw power outages after the storms. Power supply was suspended in Saddar, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Lyari, Aurangi Town, Malir, New Karachi, Korangi and other areas.
Meanwhile, a terrible fire broke out in Bhens colony of Surjani Town due to which more than 22 pens and dozens of cattle were burnt down. Owners say the fire was caused by lightning, however, police officials claimed that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
