Summary A higher level meeting regarding agri tax ended without any consensus among the provinces.
According to the sources, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Balochistan have expressed their reservations over the issue.A meeting regarding imposition of tax on agri income was held under the chair of Federal Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.Finance ministers of three provinces and the federal secretary for finance participated in the meeting while adviser to Punjab CM Zulifiqar Khan Khosa represented Punjab in the meeting.The proposal from the provinces were tabled in the meeting for the imposition of agriculture tax, however, no final decision could be taken in this regard.Talking to media after the meeting, Zulfiqar Khan Khosa said that it would be stressed that all the provinces should pay equal agriculture tax. On the other hand, the provinces have asked FBR to provide the details of agri income declared till date.Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said that only information was exchanged during the meeting.KP Finance Minister Humayoun Khan said that the agri tax was a provincial issue and the provinces would tackle it.The sources further said that Khyber Pakhtunkhawa has reservation over the agri tax as it has faced flood devastations.
